Newspeak Volendam Trouser Cotton Black
Newspeak Volendam Trouser Cotton Black, a reinterpration of the iconic Dutch workwear pants.
Inspired by the Volendam trousers from the Netherlands, this piece is meant to be part of a summer uniform. It was traditionally used by fishermen, the pleats allowing for freedom of movement. The shape hovers somewhere between formal and relaxed - cropped and loose and can be paired with the cropped worker jacket.
It features double-wall stroke pockets on the front, 2 patch pockets on the back (slightly hidden by the overlapping pleats) and a cord to adjust the width of the hem and waist.
Made from a mercerized cotton, which gives the cotton fabric a luxurious sheen and cold handle, making it ideal for the Spring/Summer season or as an extra layer in Autumn.
The garment is handdyed by Newspeak in their atelier in The Hague.
I've been working with Stef and Veronica of Newspeak Studio since the Autumn of 2023, and it is interesting to follow their journey and progress. Giving talented and emerging designers a platform to showcase their skill and craft is a very rewarding partnership.
Newspeak Studio was founded in 2023 by Stef Reijnierse and Veronica Perjan. Based on extensive research of "Western Culture" tailoring and workwear garments from the 1870s onwards, their aim is to continuously redefine elegant nonchalance that withstand the test of time. Their atelier is based in The Hague, Netherlands.
