Motiv Mandarin Coat Undyed Wool Gray/Ecru
Motiv Mandarin Coat Undyed Wool Gray/Ecru, inspired by turn-of-the-century Beijingnese overcoats, made in an unparalleled quality.
This 900g coating fabric is made completely dye-free, using naturally colored wool from three different British sheep breeds, the fabric only undergoes a wash using natural soap after being woven. This results in a completely chemical-free fabric with a supple touch, which comes as close as possible to hugging a real sheep. Developed by Marling & Evans, England.
Design: An elegant, loosely falling slip-on raglan coat. Cut with generous yet shapely sleeves as well as MotivMfg’s hallmark hook side vents, the elongated silhouette of the coat is reminiscent of turn of the century Beijingnese mandarins. The understated stand collar is made with several buttonholes, which hold a detachable, masked hood (modeled after the elusive CWU-8P jacket). The cuff is fitted with leather bands, which can be fastened to fend off the wind when necessary.
Motiv is an independent design studio from Beijing specialising in original patterns from the 1900s-1950s and converting them into a more functional style and cut. They focus on Tradition for the Future, a neo-classic approach to creating garments. Motiv strictly sources their fabrics from the top level mills in England, Ireland, Belgium, France, China and Japan.
