As Barbour celebrates its 130th anniversary, a range of signature styles have been reimagined with subtle commemorative touches to celebrate this milestone. The Gamefair jacket was first introduced into the range at the 1960 Game Fair - a popular country show in the UK that continues today and inspired its name. Designed for country pursuits, this jacket was instrumental in re-establishing Barbour in the country market and was the precursor to today’s bestsellers, the Border and Beaufort. Crafted from medium-weight thornproof waxed cotton and lined with Barbour tartan, this rendition is finished with a 130th-anniversary top stud and patch to the lining to commemorate this birthday milestone.
When I was buying these collections in January 2024, as retailers pre-order 6-8 months in advance, I was extremely excited to see this legendary coat being available in the Barbour range once again. What stood out for me was the use of the "old" Dress Gordon tartan lining, which is significantly different than the official Barbour tartan used since the late 90s. I personally feel it gives a very refined and sentimental touch to this amazing long wax coat. The relaxed fit of the Gamefair makes it ideal for layering, but it also pairs very well with a suit. The raglan sleeve construction allows ample room for suit jackets or bulky knitwear without losing the freedom of movement. It also makes it a good option for women who like the men's Barbour styles and enjoy a loose fit.
