Motiv Private Purchase Naval Down Jacket, inspired by British Officer's deck coats and Jeep coats.
A new finishing by British waxed cotton maker Halley Stevenson, it develops a strong patina akin to vintage garments after a simple wash, while retaining the water repellant qualities of traditional waxed cotton. The two new colorways, in a weight of 270gsm are developments exclusive to MotivMfg.
Design: Taking inspiration from deck coats and jeep coats bespoken by British officers, the originally kapok filling is now replaced with ultra-luxurious 800FP goose down which is used for Arctic and Himalaya expeditions. A large front zip closure is concealed with a large flap that could act as a lapel. Two zip pockets are added to the left panel, one visible and the other hidden underneath the flap, plus another two jetted besom pockets. All of this is then wrapped up with a finely top-stitched belt and finished off with a real shearling collar, which is of course detachable and can be worn up for the ultimate winter experience.
Motiv is an independent design studio from Beijing specialising in original patterns from the 1900s-1950s and converting them into a more functional style and cut. They focus on Tradition for the Future, a neo-classic approach to creating garments. Motiv strictly sources their fabrics from the top level mills in England, Ireland, Belgium, France, China and Japan.
