the late arrival of spring

the late arrival of spring

it has been a while since spring was this slow, this cold, this dry.
as I make my way through the nearby woods somewhere mid April, I can't help but noticing that, even though the trees share some rich greens, nature feels very quiet.
the tops of the trees are abundant with leaves, finally. it took them a long time to get there.
yet, the rest of nature is taking its time.
I wonder if that is maybe a sign for me as well.
taking more time.
taking it a bit slower.

my walk continues through the woods.
the very dry sand paths forming tiny dust clouds with each breeze.
ducks floating in the small pond, not a worry in the world.
soft rays of the sun coming through the leaves.
makes me think of the Wim Wenders movie 'perfect days'.
I take a seat on a park bench and just sit.
taking it a bit slower.

I start thinking about what the trees want to tell me.
their slow showing of the leaves.
I remember that in late March, I could still only see tree buds.
asking myself when the leaves would show.
apparently, just later. not too late. just a bit slower.

it makes me think of how we work with the makers at the store.
the many hours of work they put in.
the time they take for the weaving, the dyeing, the making of a garment.
a counter-movement in modern-day garment making, yet something which has always been present.
perhaps more in the background, now slowly being embraced again.

perhaps it helps me navigate through this season.
understanding and accepting that in life, it takes time to flourish.
moments where we want to rush are often the moments where we lose sight on our goals.
when life moves just a little bit slower, focus stays and goals are achieved.

the late arrival of spring has achieved its goal.
